Yep, I've just done the same, bloody white seal, never even saw it was stuck to top of cube threads.
What's the consensus - try and fish it out or just leave it be?
Sorry for delay. Mine didn't turn out great due to some phelnolc flavours (damn chloromides).
They have disappeared enough now for me to tell that I was definitely in the right track but the batch isn't great.
Will try to brew it again with a Campden tablet soon.
Can I ask if you have brewed this yet?
I recall reading in an interview with one of the MO brewers, he said something along the lines of "if people knew the true IBUs of this beer it wouldn't be classed as an IPA".
To me this implied huge whirlpool additions adding perceived bitterness but low...
Thanks to all for the help.
I've made some adjustments based on the advice above and seems good so far (less than a week in bottle). By adding 11g of calcium sulphate and 2g of magnesium sulphate to 30L of tap water. I have hopefully ended up somewhere around "Tasty McDole's Hoppy water...
Sorry to chime in in this so late. I'm just getting into AG with a Robobrew and was just wondering whether I would be best with Brisbane water (North Pine) or tank water.
I'm not advanced enough at this point to worry about changing water profiles etc, I just want to avoid any off flavours from...
Sorry, I misread question and thought you were referring to Columbus in dry hop, not at 30min.
I have just rebrewed this again, starting instead with Centennial and Simcoe at 15min, everything else as per my post above. I will let you know in a few weeks if it is any good.
As I mentioned, I wasn't trying to clone Balter, I was just experimenting and it came close.
Funnily enough I was planning on putting Simcoe in dry hop but it was raining too hard for me to be bothered going back to house to get it.
It does have a pretty huge amount of Simcoe at flameout thought
Just to chime in on this, I have a beer with a very close hop profile to Balter. I wasn't intending to replicate it, just stumbled across it.
I did a 'side by side' with mine and XPA the other week and despite the additional bitterness of my 60min hop additions, the flavour was very close...
Sorry, I see there has been mention of a generous dry hop addition, I was enquiringly more about the the type of hop.
Is Amarillo an educated guess or is this what 4 Pines dry hop this beer with? I can't find any mention of it.
I made mine last night, somehow missed my OG by 10 points, hard to do with an extract brew!!
Will see how it goes.
Anyone have any thoughts on dry hopping this beer???
Love this beer! How did yours end up?
I have a been working on a very similar extract recipe but with Columbus at 60min then equal parts Centennial, Amarillo, Columbus & Cascade at 15min and whirlpool, to 75ibu.
