I'd say it would be fine. I used to use a pool pH meter I bought from Jaycar and they are way more pricey than that one. At $15 not much to lose.

Early on I went to one of the recommended sites from KL's page. And got charged $100 + GST. That was before I knew what the going rate was and it was my first refill. Not a LHBS, but a fire exhtinguisher mob. Ended finding someone a 40min drive away for $50 cash for 6kg.

As everyone has stated. It should be fine. I think everyone has experienced the first brew nerves. I didn't sanitise my fermenter as well when I got it. Did the same thing as you and just rinsed it with boiling water. The only thing wrong I can see from your actions is waiting 2 years to brew...

I just poped one into the fermenter on tuesday night. Having a little trouble keeping the temps down, hopefully it'll be fine though. Definitely not one to do in summer if you have no fridge or means of temp control.

Don't quote me on this (as I'm new to this caper as well) but the cold temperature does not "kill" the yeast just puts it to sleep. It'll wake up for secondary fermentation in the bottle when you leave it at room temperature for about 2 weeks.

I've tried asking my local for any bottles, but they ignored me. Or maybe it got lost in their inbox.

I know the feeling. I always get weird looks when I go through the bins of my own building the night before collection. Because its well lit and right next to the train station loads of people walk past when I'm doing it.
