    Moving on...

I also have an urn for hot water, an esky mash tun and a stainless pot with LPG burner, so not very qualified to give advice, but here it is anyway! Best thing would be to see both in action. Ask at your brew club / local facebook brew group / home brew shops to see if anyone is happy for you...

Get into O2 guys, if you're serious about nicer beer

Yeah mate - Brewmart in bayswater has O2 kits and the red Bernzomatic cylinders to go with them: http://www.brewmart.com.au/brewmart-shop/catalogue/?detail&ItemID=3271&SZIDX=0&CCODE=17531&QOH=2&keywords=oxygen

Tips for getting hydrometre reading out of a carboy

I use a big syringe with some tube on the end. I think turkey basters are popular... Although I just googled it and turns out they're a good way to get pregnant as well!

I love beer and brewing, but..

I try to keep it classy at home and try to have at least half my taps 4% ABV or lower, but on the rare occasions that I go out I always find myself at some "craft beer bar" drinking high alcohol stuff, wanting to try one of everything.

Straining hops / trub into fermenter - grain bag!

I've recently been chucking a lot of home grown hops in the cube which I'd rather keep out of the ferment. Since I have a glass carboy, I use a big oil funnel from an auto shop which I sit a sieve in. Works a treat.

    spent grain bread

I've done this lots of times, the best way I figured out is to make basically a standard white loaf with nomal bakers bread flour and mix dried out spent grains through the dough to get a multigrain type of thing going on. Drying out the spent grains first was the key for me to avoiding the...

    Small Batches for Recipe Tweaking

Yeah I've done a few stovetop BIABs and fermented in an old 5L giant scotch bottle I have, but the reason was more that my ferment fridge was full and I really felt like brewing. I'm reasonably confident in my ability and system that if I make a 20L batch it's not going to be so bad I'd throw it...

What improvements to your process are you planning in order to brew be

I realise this will be the subject of much debate, but I'm interested in what people think is a reasonable order to pursue improvements? Presumably you would want to get the stuff that is easy and beer quality is more sensitive to first (low hanging fruit) to get the most value. I've been...

    Hi from corrimal

You've come to the right place mate, everything I know about brewing I learnt here or from other resources recommended here

A quick survery for those who have never entered a homebrew comp

I plan to enter a few competitions to get feedback on my brewing, but the feedback I would be most interested to hear is on my brewing techniques rather than how well I've managed to make a beer in a specific style. I think this is probably because I usually brew to taste (brew to drink might be...

A use for old crushed grain?

I've kept crushed grain for a few weeks then made an IPA with no noticeable ill effects, nowhere near as long as you have but well outside the recommended window. The hops may hav been masking it though. I'd say staling is very dependant on storage conditions, oxidation, moisture, heat etc. I...

    Citra

Yep, Citra is a confusing name. Tropical fruit with a bit of citrus according to most sources.

    Survey results

Interesting read, but I agree with above comments regarding the non representative sample. You would have had to be aware of the survey, I guess either through being aware of beer cartel or through looking at brewing related stuff online (forums, facebook etc), then be actually motivated enough...

    No Chill Versus Chill?

After reading this i haven't worried so much about trub: http://brulosophy.com/2015/03/22/the-impact-of-kettle-trub-part-2-exbeeriment-results/ Yes, his has cold break in it too and the beer is chilled, but I haven't seen much detriment by having some kettle trub in my ferment... Except that it...

    No Chill Versus Chill?

I've recently made the change to no chill after years of immersion chilling, mainly for the time management aspect (got a young baby etc). Does no chill make a significant difference to hop profile? I'd say it definitely would if you kept your recipe the same - but that's not the way to do it...
