IBU calcs when doing partial mash, & adding extract late.

The brewersfriend calculator has a tick box for your fermentables, "Late addition" that takes this into account. If you tick it and untick it you'll see your IBU result change.

    James Squire Amber Ale Recipe

Commercial kitchens aren't supposed to use tea-towels anymore to avoid food poisoning, I would recommend you keep such items the hell away from your beer.

    Kit Colour

The coopers website lists EBC and IBU's for all of their kits. Now if only they gave ppg...

My First Kit - Is It Stuffed?

Pick up the fermenter and give the whole thing a bit of a swirl (avoiding splashing). Leave it for a few more days and see if the gravity's changed. If it hasn't, bottle. 1.016 is highish but still well within drinkable range.

    Is Extract Better Than Kits?

:-) Coopers isn't really one of our larger breweries, they do quite well but they are not owned by either of the "big 2" which produce.. I'd guess at least 90% of beer sold in australia. About the best that can be said of australian megaswill vs american megaswill is that the aussie stuff isn't...

    Hops And Malt

Just a problem that I've run into before that I thought I'd give you a heads up on, if your malt extract is dry it's MUCH freakin easier to add it and dissolve it into the water between the steep and the boil than it is after the boil. This is because at that time you can apply heat and stir...

    Cascade Brew Wont Start

I'd fix up your temp control if I were you. Ales should be 18-22 for best results.

    Pale Ale Recipe

If that is actually an IPA, (Indian Pale Ale) kit and not just a Pale Ale kit I would be very wary of adding any more bittering hops (>15m boil time) with only 500g of extra malt.

    Gunky Shite

Lol, have a taste of that brown gunk and then ask again whether you should stir it in :-P If the krausen has already been and gone and left that crap on the sides then your airlock is not likely to do much from here on in no matter how well you seal the fermenter. Relax, sounds like it's going...

    First Batch

They're talking slightly lift the tape. I stopped worrying about an airlock as of my third batch. Fermenter I just sit a piece of glad wrap over the little hole so nothing falls in it, cubes I just don't screw the cap on tight.

    Rudd Says Sorry

citymorgue2: the juxtaposition of your particular comments with context they were in makes your intended purpose very clear. War could not have been declared on the indigenous population of australia as that would have violated the principles behind terra nullis. A declaration of war implies an...

    Rudd Says Sorry

So faryg did you read the statement? (in full). Or are you as shallow as you post implies.

    Partial Stout

without knowing the grain or the temperature, 5 mins still sounds extraordinarily short.

    Rudd Says Sorry

citymorgue2: I'm glad to know we were at WAR with the aboriginal population during the early 1970s, this is a revelation to me, could you cite your sources? This: And then this: So up to 50,000 stories similar to the one at the top. Personally, I couldn't be happier that he said sorry.

    Rudd Says Sorry

Good, about time. The governments culpability re the stolen generation is fairly well documented and is not going to be modified by parliament saying sorry.
