I think the cheapest bottle I could get at the time was about $250 which really made the decision for me. As it turns out I use close to a bottle per year anyway and you can always cancel if you get a better deal.
I rent through BOC, I think it is, about $70 or something per year for 6.5kg with free refill. Think it's about $65 for a refill at local home brew shops, so no brainer for me.
Robobrew I was using was a couple degrees out, read two or three degrees high I think from memory, easy to adjust for however.
Have also got some fairly poor results from some old grain I dug up and used one time.
As long as your containers are clean and sterile you should be right, pickled onions are pretty bulletproof in my experience as they should be sitting in vinegar anyway. I do heat my vinegar, don’t normally boil but get it close when adding spices etc.
I would not really trust a 179 at such high resistance but it is a good indication, really need a megger as you say if you are worried. I would be suprised if you have any issues.
Don’t be put off having a go at a keezer build, my wood working skills are minimal but I have ended up with a perfectly functional keezer, basic still works in this case.

Would also say that while you can ferment in your kegerator you can’t drink out of it at the same time, I imagine that you will soon get sick of that.
Being in Brisbane you can probably pick up gear a lot cheaper so worth looking around a bit in regards to building keezer vs buying a kegerator...
I have a chest freezer for fermenting and have built a keezer.
Went with the keezer as in theory it was cheaper than buying a kegerator, also had a freezer that fit four kegs almost perfectly.
