    Overflowing brew issue

Sounds fine mate she'll be okay. If you're using the 25L water barrel from Bunnings like I am then I fill to the middle of the handle indents and no higher. A few litres shy of your 'proper' 23L brew but I don't miss it. I usually end up bottling about 50 stubbies so I'm happy.

First brew in a few years!

Happy Australia Day guys! I've been off the brewing scene for a while and am making a return with a new plastic water drum from Bunnings and a few bits and pieces I've had stored away in the shed. In the past I've done BIAB style AG and extract but have kept the bulk of things simple with kits...

    'battle Of The Toucans'

Again, I can't believe this thread is still kicking along strong in 2018 after I started it in 2007, haha. Good to see so many good (and bad!) experiences from the varied brews - I do like the look of the Trappist, mongey! One downfall of where I am at the moment is no HB shop and having to...

Long time no see - returning member.

Hey all, just a quick message to say I'm back about the boards. I joined up in 2007 and brewed through 2010 heavily, then gradually tapered off after that as work, family and general life pressures took priority. At the height of it I was all-grain BIAB (brewing in a bag - do people still do...

    Petition the ACCC

Isnt this shit why we homebrew in the first place? So we don't have to drink commercial beer, enjoy something we have control of, and, during consumption, lessen the blow of the (admittedly generally pretty good) reality that we are faced with every day? - boingk

    Tooheys Old Dark Ale

Count me among the Old-drinking masses, too. Even the Tooheys Dark Ale 1.7kg kits do a reasonable job at replicating it. Not 100% but pretty darn good considering you can throw it into the fermenter with a pack of Coopers BE2 and have something approaching an Old. The included yeast (Maui 514?)...

    Bottle bombs

Yeah my vote would be a double-dose at carbonation time. I've had a longneck blow out just as you've described from that, sure does go off! I always like a 25'C diacetyl rest for a day or two to get everything out of the system before bottling, too, as at 18'C you sometimes can have a small...

    'battle Of The Toucans'

Can't believe this thread is still going after starting it in 2007! Awesome stuff. The Coopers Aussie Pale / Dark Ale kit combo sounds like a good one, NikZak, might have to give it a go, or sub a Stout for the Dark perhaps... Cheers - boingk

    Heres to the bottlers.

Hell yeah the bottlers! I go half/half stubbies/longnecks if I can, so I've got longnecks for after work and stubbies for taking to a mates place etc. I like to get into a groove with it; set up the fermenter and bottling attachment, get my priming sugar and dispenser ready, bottlecapper and...

    Gripes about AHB

I've been here a while, and don't engage in trolling/whinging/etc type posts. I will help someone with something if I think I can, but will not indulge someones every whim. Eg type/amount/method of hop, but not if they will like it! People can get too wrapped up in stuff. If you think someone...

Help me design a Caramel Biscuit beer

Careful on the biscuit malt, I've used up to about 5% in the past I think and it came through reasonably well in that, too, so wouldn't want a whole heap. I'll look up the exact recipe when I get a chance. I'd also put some Amarillo in, especially in dryhop, as this will give you a bit of a...

    'battle Of The Toucans'

Sounds good mate, although I've never been one for Fuggles, bi too earthy for my tastes. Could do well with some Galaxy or Centennial to cut through the double canning? - boingk

    What Are You Brewing III

Looking mouthwatering guys... particularly liking the Amber, Sponge. Nothing here at the moment but I'm planning a simple Heffe with my brother and will knock out a kits 'n' bits ale of some sort, too, probably along the lines of this: 1.7kg kit 500g LDME 200g white sugar 200g steeped grain...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

Had a bottle of Burleigh Brewing's 'Black Giraffe' lager a weekend or two ago with my Father - saw it a while ago on sale and thought it'd be perfect as we both like our beers and coffees. It poured very nicely into two schooners, the traditional style; none of this commercial craziness...
