    Ginger beer FG

I made the one with the Morgans kit and a whole bunch of adjuncts like fresh ginger, chillies, ginger cordial, vermouth etc and the flat metallic artificial sweetener taste still comes through. It's still sitting in the keg as I'm trying to work up the strength to dump it since it was quite...

Brewing for the first time in 3 years - What to replace?

Is the fermenter HDPE? I had mine stored in the garage for a couple of years and the plastic went really brittle. I don't think they are very UV resistant. Maybe fill it up with water and try lifting it. Mine let go around the outside edge of the rim.

    My first brew

I was 18, it was a Coopers Home Brew Kit, Coopers Sparkling Ale. Kit and kilo. Sodium Met was the steriliser back then, I didn't rinse the bottles after using it and the beer was tainted with it. Was not great. I still drank the 30 odd bottles. *shudder*

Brewday and what is everyone brewing currently?

Got a Belgian Saison in the fermenter. Yeasties are about halfway through I reckon.

I usually chuck a couple of stainless teaspoons in the sock to weigh it down.

    Woolworths apple juice

My guess is it would be the Melrose Apple Juice Concentrate. https://www.rchnaturalproducts.com.au/product/melrose-apple-juice-concentrate-360ml/ Health food shops stock it.

How long can I leave a NEIPA in the fermenter

You can drag the hop sock down into the wort using said magnet and hold it under the surface by leaving the magnet attached on the outside. Otherwise a couple of s/s teaspoons in the sock do the trick to weigh it down.

How long can I leave a NEIPA in the fermenter

These magnets are pretty strong. I put them in a tiny snap lock bag when I use them in my brews. You can also vacuum seal them. I wouldn't drop them in naked though. You don't want weird metals leaching into your brew...

    Back to brewing

Same here. Used to do Kit and Kilo, had kids, mothballed my gear and 15 or so years later started up again. K+K for the first couple to get my hand back in and then moved to BIAB. The explosion of craft beer sort of triggered my return. Needed to make my love for craft beer more economical on...

    My first Irish Red ale

Looks great Capn. I've also got an Irish Red in my fermenter. What hops did you use? I used Fuggles for bittering and EKG late in the boil for flavour/aroma. Notto for the yeast. Hoping it comes out ok.
