    New to cider making

    Much success with InCider's simple recipe. Add 1kg sugar for extra kick. 2kg for stagger-cider. Have also had success adding grated ginger. Latest experiment has 100g juniper berries, 10g coriander seeds. 10L batch. Serve topsed with ginger ale, lemonade, apple juice, etc, to taste. So easy.

    Pesky science. Self priming hot worter (ha ha) reduces pressure and turns the liquid to steam which defeats the self prime. i.e. you can only self prime under 60° <guessing a bit here>.

    There are inexpensive self-priming high temp wort diaphragm pumps available but I would build a tipping mech. for the pot 'cause I like building stuff and don't like cleaning lines.

    Bottle Aging- how long?

    My PET brewing bottles have vertical striations below where they start to neck like the nylon lining inside is splitting. They are getting on, but. Maybe time to change them up.

    Melbourne water is F.A.B. but the Adelaide supply is awful. An undersink (or oversink) cartridge filter system is the go and purportedly pays for itself after some time if you have to buy drinking water. 3M make some good ones and Amway make a really good one with UV light sterilisation but it...

    DTD has it nailed: $1 per longneck and homebrew is fun. To paraphrase (misquote? RAHAHB) Ratty to the Mole: “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing–absolutely nothing–half so much worth doing as simply messing about with homebrew.”.
