    Electric 70l Kettle

I think he is suggesting running a single element on a suitable 20A dedicated circuit but just wants to be able to adjust to stop boiling over etc. You could also have a high/low (ramp/boil) switch or a fixed/variable switch with this type of setup. Alfie

    Electric 70l Kettle

The first ones are similar to the last but easier to install in your case. The supplied heatsinks make mounting harder but just replace them with something like this or this. Then you just need a potentiometer connected to adjust your heat output. Alfie

    Electric 70l Kettle

I went to some trouble to explain this as it wouldn't make sense to most non-electrical people. In this configuration they give me only 3.6kW but 4 times the surface area of a single element. I could have used one of these elements for the same power output but less surface area. Still in the...

    "brewbuilder" Discussion Thread

I'm lucky enough to be a local customer of Marks, but I've got to say Brewbuilder is bloody good. I haven't used beersmith for ages. The database recipes I've tried have been tops and I can save my own recipes in my profile. Good work on getting this up Mark! Alfie

    Electric 70l Kettle

Lukasfab, I am almost finished my single vessel rig with the 4 elements. I chose to use 4 as I could wire them for 3.6kW, 4 times the surface area-each element dissipates about 900w. Sure, I had to buy 4, but at $16 bucks each that is still cheaper than most other options. Ignore the temp...

Anyone Got A Faulty Brown Pump?

That's the bit I'm after too! Alfie

    Electric 70l Kettle

I installed 4 of these elements in series/parallel for 3.6kw and a fair bit of surface area. Just check the thickness of your pot base to see if they are suitable. I can post some pics of the install if you need. Alfie.

    12 Volt Connects

I'm a big fan of the these jaycar microphone plugs. I have used them for my pumps and temp sensors with no problems. Even have a screw collar to stop them coming loose mid brew. Alfie

Upgrading My Control Panel (2 Pole Rcd Or 1 Pole)

If you are running a 15A AND a 10A (assuming different circuits) into your box you would need 2 RCDs- 1 for each circuit regardless of each RCD being 1 or 2 poles. Everyone else is probably assuming this already. I'm also looking at running 2 circuits into my control box. I've already got both...

    Thermowell Build Options

Nath, I use this heat transfer paste is my thermowell probes. The syringe is good to push the paste down a heatshrink tube to get it right to the end of the thermowell, then insert the sensor, I use the 18B20.

    Braumeister Chiller Revisited

my trick with my 18m immersion chiller takes a little fore-thought but I can chill to lager pitching temp no problem. 1) Make 2 x 8L bucket ice blocks in the fermenting fridge 2 days before brewing. 2)The night before brewing, put fermenter in the brew fridge with about 20L water in it. 3)Use...

    Thermowell Questions....

Big Nath, you need to use a heat transfer compound such as "transfer compound". However good or bad stainless is as a heat transfer medium, air is much worse. The grease forms a thermal bridge from the sensor to the thermowell. I made a probe previously and used "jb weld" to seal the cable to...

9 Litre Corny's 'cheapish?' And Mobile Setups

After missing out on this, I have been lucky enough to find "kegs" these guys. They have used party kegs for 40 euro which is about $50Aus at the moment (without shipping). I ordered a 340mm high one which only seem to be available second hand (if at all) in Aus for $163.00 new and delivered...
