    English Special Bitter

Hi, I have bought the beer kit for an English Special Bitter (similar to the Fullers drop) from Australian Home Brewers here in Melbourne. The first one was great but the second, although the taste was good, the bottles would continue to spew the head after opening. When poured into a glass...

    Nom bubbles in airlock

Hi All, I am presently fermenting a Coopers English Bitter. Its been almost 5 days and although I've had one or two bubbles through the airlock now the water in both sides of the airlock is level! I have taken the top off and given it a good stir but to no avail. I used SAF Ale 04 yeast instead...

    Brew still bubbling

Hi all, I have an English Bitter brew kit fermenting that has been bubbling away for 2 weeks now at just under 20 degrees C. The interval is down to 4 minutes today after 2 weeks. Do I have to wait until it stops or can I reply of taking the SG over 2 days and checking it is the same? Any help...

Cooper brew Kit still bubbling away

Hi Guys, I have had a Coopers English Bitter kit on the go now for a over 2 weeks now at low 20s centigrade. Over this past weekend I took the specific gravity over a couple of days and it was steady at 1016. I have left it as I 'm not able to start bottling until this weekend and I've noticed...

    Bulk Priming

Just doing a quick test, it looks as though I would only need about 80 grams of white sugar whereas before I was using 140 grams or thereabouts! Does this surprise anyone?

Thanks guys, especially Wayne and Manticle for the links. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Cheers,

    Bulk Priming

I always use beer kits and have always bulk primed my brews instead of applying a small amount of sugar to each bottle. I have accumulated a collection of 500ml bottles which I use. My local brewing guru is no longer available but in the beginning he gave me a table of the amount of sugar to use...

    Too Gassy

Yes, sorry, forgot about that. I'm bulk priming with white sugar at the rate of 140g if the SP is between 1010 and 1014. Maybe I've been a bit generous with this measurement as well. It's always in the back of my mind that I need to have a good head on my beer. I agree there is nothing wrong...

    Too Gassy

Hi Guys, I have been brewing from kits now for a couple of years and have been using trial and error to get things pretty right. I'm happy enough with my beers but one thing seems to spoil them just a bit. Although the taste is good it is a bit too gassy which gives me a bit of wind (a bit...

    Malt Extract. Liquid Or Dry?

Hi Guys, All my brews to this point have been Kit and Sugar mix as recommended by my local brew shop. Now the expert has gone and I'm left to fend for myself. Going on this forum has opened my eyes to a whole range of options to improve my brews. Still, I will take it bit by bit and the first...

    Problems Fermenting

I don't know about getting into grain, I seem to have enough trouble with kits! I'll look into it though as I need to find something to do when I retire. B) My favourite beer is Fullers London Pride with their ESB a close second, but then again I am a Londoner. That's my excuse. I found a kit...

    Problems Fermenting

Thanks for all the replies. This is why I signed up. The topic has highlighted another query I have and that is YEAST. When I started the brew shop owner (Adrian @ Magik Brew in McCae, Mornington Peninsula) always gave me a yeast sachet (can't remember name but the sachet was light blue) and...

    Problems Fermenting

I'm down on the Mornington Peninsula at Rosebud. Only one brew shop here and the next nearest is in Mornington!
