How many of you get the 10c a bottle or can?

Yeah... Seriously folks. SA has had this for decades and the world has so far failed to end. People ratting through bins... Yeah, maybe but I doubt it will lead to massive pollution problems. Money laundering... Seriously? That's a pretty low efficiency method there. I'm sure someone at a depot...

    Cider - yield from press

I have heard that basket style presses are really designed for soft fruit like grapes rather than hard fruit like apples bad the yield will be low with the hard fruit. The big single basket gets packed with hard pulp very quickly and the juice can't run. Traditional apple presses were a...

    Passionfruit Mead

My general rule of thumb for fruit is about 250g for 5l. You will need to experiment but that's not a bad starting point. As for spices, what goes nicely with passionfruit? Vanilla? Clove? Cheers Dave

    First mead

    Should be fine.

Peach Melomel (mead) and an Apple and Blackcurrant cyser

The oak does a few things. It adds some tannins which helps structure and it adds some flavours (vanilla, toast.... Depending on the type of cube and how dark they are). I have read that the oak tannins help the wine age by binding to other compounds to form large particles that then drop out...

    Food Gardening

I built mine out of the non CCA treated pine. It's a non arsenic thing that's designed for vege beds and the like. It's a reddish colour instead of the green CCA. Can be hard to find but I picked up mine at Bunnings. I think it was about 10 bucks per sleeper.

Solar hot water - still get large electricity bills, huh?

We pay 9/10 of f-all for our hot water on solar. Our system is 20+years old (needs replacing). Definitely going solar again for the new system. Maybe even solar boosted heat pump if the budget will stretch. It sounds like your solar isn't heating with solar but relying on the booster. The...

    Continuing Jokes Thread

Some of those actually have answers! The answers are - The future It depends on your frame of reference Because books are made up of stack of folded blocks called quires and they always have an even number of pages. They are also all the same size for a particular book. So if your book...

    First mead

Depends.... Leaving it on the lees can give you a buttery/bready flavour like a Chardonnay or champagne. Which may be what you are after. If it not, secondary. I tend to rack mine to a secondary. Cheers Dave

Draft strategy proposes radical plan to boost booze prices

Yeah. Look at it this way... If you want an intervention that does pretty much what it says on the boxn- reduce consumption of cheap booze, then raising the price is very effective. If you want something that fixes all those other things, then yeah, nah. Not so much. Big complex multifactor...

Draft strategy proposes radical plan to boost booze prices

I don't know that making booze really cheap makes neglect issues go away... If the problem is bad enough that someone would prioritise booze over their kids food then it's going to be a problem whether goon costs $5 or $50. The theory here (and reasonably well backed up with evidence so far)...

Draft strategy proposes radical plan to boost booze prices

Wow.. News is really going with the click bait on this one. Who would have thought news.com.au, that august journal of record would indulge in scaremongering click bait? These floor price schemes are hardly new and hardly radical. They only impact the cheapest possible booze - cheap goon...

It is... But my brew shed is even more picturesque. I'd much rather spend a week there.

Continuing Rant Thread - Get it Off Ya Chest here

I'd like to time warp past Xmas. We have to drive from Sydney to Hamilton (Victoria) to visit the in laws each year. The Mil (who has dementia... Not the kind where you become nice and sweet but very forgetful.... The kind where you become nasty and spiteful and paranoid, and very forgetful)...
