Topics I've Started

Spam attacks

27 January 2017 - 07:58 PM

Just to let you know that since last night, a ridiculous number of bots seem to be signing up.

You will have seen quite a few spam topics appear today - for every one of those, there's been more than 15 new members joining that are obvious spambots.

Mods are trying to keep up with removing the topics as they come up and banning/disabling the new users but there's a leak somewhere that needs US admin/developer support. AU mods will do what we can - bear with us. Us admin have been notified but are in a different time zone.

WTB: honey in bulk, hobart area

24 September 2016 - 03:02 PM

Wanting to access 5-7 kg of a lighter flavoured honey for a batch of mead.

Hopefully the council changes its archaic regulations on suburban beekeeping soon so I can harvest my own but I'd love to put down a batch soon.

Any recommendations?

Stainless tig welding - 1.6 mm to 1.6 and 2.4

07 September 2016 - 07:31 PM

I know there's a few experienced welders on here.

Any tips or recommended settings for sturdy welding of small diameter stainless to either same diameter or slightly thicker?

Had a crack yesterday and today and some came up ok but struggled to get a weld pool that wouldn't melt the thin parent too much before applying the filler.

This is to make object mounts for museum objects so imagine a 4mm post, perpendicular butt a 2.4 at the end (t-shape) then perpendicular butt a short 1.6 at each end of the 2.4 (bit like a thin camping toast fork).

Have amp settings down low (I was on 25, colleague had more success below 20) and using 2t so I can have the arc stop after a tiny time with minimal effort but struggling to get a neat, sturdy weld I can trust.

Possibly odd request, have other avenues for advice but the more, the merrier.

International Beer Collector - experiences, beers, etc

02 April 2016 - 11:42 AM

https://beercollector.com.au

It's been mentioned a few times on this forum already and I know there are a few subscribers on ahb. For those who don't know, IBC specialise in mostly Belgian beers that are hard to find in AU. $42 pcm (plus freight) gets you a six pack of generally unknown 330mL stubbies (although I think one of every 6 is usually familiar to belgian beer lovers - blanche de namur in last month's for example).
So I signed up but won't get my first 6er till later this month. In between I ordered 4 beers from their specials, including malheur 12 and tripel karmeliet ($4 a pop for the latter, BB date some time next year).

Shipping took a while but factor in both Easter and the fact that I'm across the Bass Strait and I reckon it's reasonable.

As far as the beers go - beautifully fresh, well treated and an extra brett/simcoe mix thrown in.

If the regular 6ers are anywhere near as good, I'll be a stayer.
