What do you think of this SmAsH?

Hi guys,


I'm having a crack at my first smash brew using Maris Otter and Simcoe. It's something different from what's usually done and I've come up with the following recipe:


5.5kg Maris Otter

(I was also tossing up adding 250g Carapils which I have lying around...)


15g Simcoe @ 60

15g Simcoe @ 20

28g Simcoe @ 0 (Steep for 15mins)

56g Simcoe Dry Hop 10 days


Mash @ 67 for 90 mins


Est OG: 1.051

Est FG: 1.012

IBU: 30.2

ABV: 4.73%


I was going loosely for a British Golden Ale style with a lot of hop aroma from the dry hop and moderate flavour from the flameout addition. I didnt want it too bitter to overpower the MO... What do you think?

Forgot to sanitise syphon hose

Hi guys, just wondering if you all sanitise your syphon hoses before use? I'm guessing the answer is yes... I started syphoning into my batch priming bucket and got to about 5 litres before I realised I forgot the bloody fill it with Starsan as I usually do! :blink: I did fill it with PSR and rinsed with hot water then put it into my fermenter with 3L of Starsan and shook it about with the other bits and pieces. But none of the starsan would have gotten into the middle of the hose. I'm a little pissed off at myself because it was tasting really good. I'm hoping the PSR will be enough to sanitise the hose or at least keep the bugs at bay... or stop the bottles exploding!



De-chlorination substance

Hi guys, I know Campden tablets are good to remove chlorine and chloramine from tap water. But I dont have any on hand... I do have API brand Tap Water Conditioner for use in fish tanks to remove these chemicals. Has anyone used this in their brew water or know if its safe to use? It doesnt have the active ingredients on the bottle.
