Beach Hotel Byron

05 March 2017 - 01:50 PM

Mrs talked me into heading up to Byron today for lunch, I figure - okay lets go to the pub can't be that bad.

Beauty, they've got a Balter pilsner on tap. I order one and it comes out looking a bit golden. That's a bit strange I thinks...

Anyway, was a Carlton draught keg they've got hooked up to that tap or I'm a monkeys uncle. Could be an honest mistake I suppose. Didn't stay for a second beer.

Whitebines.

22 February 2017 - 11:28 AM

A few years old, but an interesting article about the Farnham Whitebine hop. Also commonly available at that time was the Canterbury whitebine.

Hogsback brewery in Surrey is bringing them back apparently.

Unfortunately am assuming both non-available in Australia? Be a fair bit of quarantine involved to get some across I suppose?

A fraction the price of a helicopter. Would have saved our Bronnie a lot of trouble!!

Electric aquarium chillers?

24 January 2017 - 07:50 AM

Hi Guys, anyone have any experience with electric aquarium chillers? I'd like to control fermentation temp better but don't really have space for an extra stand alone fridge.

The aquarium chillers online start around $90 and claim to cool 20L down to around 10 C . Intention would be to cool a water bath to desired temp and ferment in that.

Might even be good for a wort chiller? Producing cool water to run through a coil?

Anyway, just trying to think outside the square..

Here's an ebay example:
