Northern brew in Woonona, closed down ?

since moving into the area last year been buying some stuff from these guys . like to support local 

 

went to go there and its closed. looks like there may be some fit out going on. 

 

I know they were trying to sell it 

 

anyone know whats happening with ti ? 


Anyone else doing crafty brew advent calander ?

Got an early Xmas present from the mother in law late last week. Looking forward to seeing what's lurking in there. Got the day 1 beer waiting for me at home.

increasing steeping grains in extract recpie ?

so got some bits and peices for putting on a brew this week . I just moved from sydney down south so checked out the local homebrew shop . just a question for my own   learning

 

so made this coopers session IPA recpeie a coupel times  before and have mostly  the right hops in the fridge so gonna make it again .think I have mosiac instead of bravo this itme .

 

 

30 min boil

 

Strain into a good size pot (around 8 litres) then add 500g of Light Dry Malt plus another 2 litres of water and bring to the boil.

 

Add Nelson Sauvin hops and boil for 10mins then Galaxy Hops for a further 10mins then Bravo Hops for the final 10mins

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

so question is the local shop only sold grain in 500g bags. If I was to steep the whole 500g what would it change in  the beer flavour wise ? I know it will bump the the alc a little after putting it in the spreadsheet but will I need to tweak anything else ? will increased grain just for the hell of it have any negative effects ?

 

 

I was thinking  about also putting in 500g dextrose to bump up the alc a little too from just under 5 to 6ish


Add a boil to a weak wort already fermenting ?

So being strapped for time I got one of the new black ipa fresh wort kits from St. Peter's brewery. So emptied the cube and added the 8 liters of water. The label said it would make 20 liters but only had 18. So did a gravity reading to see if it was strong and if I should add more water and it was only 1040. So it's going to be a very weak black iPa once it's done. Pitched the yeast even though wasn't happy.



To bump it up Thinking of getting a kilo of ldm and doing a quick boil with some centennial and Nelson suavin i have in the freezer. Can I add this after a few days fermenting already ? If so should I pitch more yeast when adding ?

homebrew supplies age restricitions ?

so I was chatting to a mate who didint know anything  about brewing and is interested in starting , just going through the process from go to whoa for beginners with kits and he asked if there is any age limit on buying home brew supplies .

 

I had no idea . googled and didn't  really find anything . really its just a bunch of sugar ,hops and some yeast . stuff you can get anywhere

 

I never go into brew shops, get all my stuffdelivered  online ,so cant ask there.

 

not about to promote homebrewing to minors , just a curosity
