Hey guys .. Invision Power Board (this software) has never been a fan favorite. vBulletin was king and then once it started to go South employees and fan jumped to Xenforo.

The software version we are on needs to be upgraded immediately. However, it's not a simple upgrade, it's like installing new software and doing a migration and if we have to do all that work it needs to be to Xenforo. The recipe builder here is built on IPB3 so I've been holding out because once we upgrade IPB it will 100% break, but so much is broke and they stopped support/security patches that we have to move quick.

We also need to SSL the website so Chrome doesn't have that warning. Then the URL will be https://aussiehomebrewer.com/

Over the next couple of weeks we will be migrating data, trying to replicate the style, add any addons to get all the features here, get SSL working.

Just a heads up. Like moving into any new house there will be some hiccups and getting used to it but once the dust settles we will be in much better shape immediately and long-term.

If there is custom feature here you really like let me know.

If there's one I dislike?
Like the mod/admin badges?

Thanks for letting us know.

I don't even want to say what we are running, it's that old.

You don't like the style of badges or the concept of badges?

My level of understanding with all this software and computer machine jargon is limited, though as with any changes or proposed upgrades I'd like to see;

- More cow bell.

- The chronological order of posts already in place kept.

- A reward system aside from the 'like' button currently used. If there's some way to reward the wise old sages of the site for their genuine advice and experience.

Also, when you say the recipe builder, are you referring to Brewer's Friend? If so will this wipe out my existing recipes or alter them in such a way that they actually taste good?

Please don't forget to pack the old threads in the boxes stored in the roof, I did that once with some old style thick gauge bottles and regretted it.

I would like desktop mode default behaviour of clicking on a thread title to be to go to first unread post rather than first post, rather than having to aim at the little blue dot. Even better would be to have this as a user setting, please.

Also a user setting for number of posts displayed per page would be great.

The ability to tag a user in a thread/post.

List birthdays in order if recency if last post, not day joined. Many of the old timers are long gone yet active members don't get recognised cause they are way down the list...

Good luck with the move Admin.  :)

If anything needs to be changed for the better it's that crappy forum logo up the top LHS.

Dane's old forum logo was superior by far, by far, by far, ad infinitum.

Definitely like the top right list of recent posts, plus the recent brief comment section below it. Having the various sections listed out (compared to, say, drop down menus) is good.

Definitely definitely need the recipe section restarted(!!), preferably keeping at least the first page or 3 of recipes in each style section.

Much of the overall look and layout is good. If it's too "busy" it will become visually chaotic.

Also like how clicking on a thread takes you to the last read post.

Agree with GP on listing bdays according to recent post. I do like the more senior ACTIVE members being at the top, but seeing people who signed up 13 years ago and were active for a month fill the top spots is annoying. So ideally some combo of seniority plus activity.

2c

And good luck with the upgrade
(If possible, please don't do it right before any case swaps )

Being able to upload full size (MB) photos would be great & having some sort of scroll function on the "Latest posts" column would be good too, I always see interesting threads that I don't have time to read during the working day and by the time I get home I've forgotten about them or can't find them. Being able to scroll through the last 12/24 hrs of topics would be handy.
Other than the odd spam attack wave I've got no real complaints.

Perhaps a survey could be in order?
I know I don't use half of the available functions this site has to offer, I 99% access with my phone, go straight to the latest posts and use the search bar, that's about it.
Good luck with the move, I'd love to help but I think I'm busy that weekend. Lemme know if you need to borrow the trailer.
Cheers

I'm gonna second what grumpypaul said, would be great to be able to tag users, I guess you would then need to be able to set whether you get an email when tagged or not...

Style.
I made it known back when they were first designed and was told to see if it grew on me.

Hasn't.

Pretty small deal though.

The feeling is probably mutual (insert ninja emoticon)... Tagging would be good though.

As mentioned above, bigger image uploads. Atm, uploading an image from the phone is a PITA. Best of luck with the transition.
