Free To A Good Home: 50 Odd Coopers Long Neck 750ml Bottles

G'day all, I've decided to get rid of my excess Coopers 750ml long neck crown seal bottles, free to a good home brewer or a starting home brewer. The catch is you need to pick up from Hornsby (Sydney northern suburbs) only and on a Tuesday day time (before 3PM). I've got 50~60 in 2 boxes ready...

Jao The Ultimate Beginners Mead Recipe

Joe's Ancient Orange and Spice mead! That recipe and text is still going around the traps which is a testament to Joe Mattioli who originally wrote the rant and recipe. I made it a few years ago not long after the rant first appeared and the only thing I would comment on is the yeast. In the...

Hornsby (sydney) Area Home Brew Club

Thanks guys for the feedback. I'd prefer more north than south when looking for a home brew club but I'll consider whats out there first before starting one. Cheers Simon

Hornsby (sydney) Area Home Brew Club

Well, I've finally decided to look at joining a home brew club. The trouble is, I do want a local club rather than travel across half of Sydney to get to a meeting. Is there a home brew club for the Hornsby/Asquith/Berowra/Wahroonga area? Anyone know? I know the Hills Brewers Guild but the...

Are You A Homebrewer Or A Craftbrewer?

I'm a homebrewer. I hate that the nationals in Australia are called the "Amateur" brewers. It should be home brewers, not amateur. But then again, that's not all I hate about that competition........

Coopers Coopers Beer Sales Soar, Sold 58.781 Million Litres In 2009&#3

Good on you Coopers. They may not brew the best beer in Australia but at least you can get it and enjoy it. Better them staying independent than being owned than a mega-brew co lile Lion Nathan

    60min Vs 90min Boil

Another thing to mention about the 90min boil is that you can also achieve more kettle caramelisation in the process which can be a good thing if that's what you're after. Personally, I also want a 90min boil to drive off any precursors to DMS which is why I do it for anything containing those...

Utilizing Coopers Best Extra Stout Yeast.

If I remember correctly, the yeast used for the stout is the same as for the Pale Ale and Sparkling Ale. Therefore, you're better off getting the yeast out of the Pale Ale bottles as they've been less "beaten up" in the fermentation process and, due to the lower alcohol, have a better viability...

    Ahb Merch Orders!

Wash them first???? Ahhhhh nuts.... Anyway, nothing spilled on it in the brew session and both have been washed now and still look awesome!! I love them. They've replaced my Cheers shirt with Norm quotes on the back and my "Save the planet... it's the only one with beer" t-shirt as my favourite...

    Ahb Merch Orders!

Mine arrived in the mail today!!! Cool. Sizing is great, printing is good. T-Shirt fabric seems great quality. Excellent job! Wearing one of them at the moment and about to head outside and brew an English Bitter. Couldn't be happier. Gonna have an IPA to celebrate (even though it's not even...

H2o2 To Increase Oxygen In Wort And Reduce Bacteria

It's a good water sanitiser for reducing yeasts in drinking water and you can use it as a sanitiser for your equipment. Would not be good for adding dissolved oxygen to the wort, you would have to add way too much and still not get the results you want. Better off getting an aquarium pump from...

    No Rinse Sanitisers

I've mostly used Iodophor but I've also used The Country Brewer's Liquid Sanitiser (phosphoric acid) a couple of times. Both are excellent and work well when mixed to the right amounts. I will be switching to Star San though for when my current bottle of Iodophor runs out. No particular reason...

Best Way To Store Left Over Grain?

+1 for the plastic screw top containers. They work well although mine aren't actually clear, I can still see the grain level. Base malts just go into an old plastic bucket fermenter which is no longer in use - just put the screw in bung back into the tap outlet and sealed up the airlock hole...

    2010 Brewing Resolutions

1: Build that HERMS system that I've been thinking about for a while now 2: Enter some comps 3: Take on the few remaining styles which I haven't yet brewed: sour ale, fruit beer, & spice beer. #3 will be the hardest because I've neither tasted good versions of those styles and haven't really...

    Bulk Priming Calculator

Yeah, don't know the American style either, just what I've read. If you find it's a bit high. just remember you can swirl the glass a bit to get some of the CO2 out of solution for a less carbonated beer. Either way, enjoy your beer! Simon

    Bulk Priming Calculator

I think there might be some German style vs American style issues coming into play here. I just had a look in Designing Great Beers to double check what I thought and Ray says carbonate to nearly double that of lagers: 3.6 ~5.1 vols CO2. In the general discussion of the style, he makes the...

    How Long And Whats Best?

I think if you put it in the freezer for about 24 hours, that should be enough to kill the critters. It definitely works with flour so I think it would also work with grains. As long as you store it in an air tight container after that, all should be well. No critters going through the grain mill!
