Oxygenation stone for oxygen and carbonation

This is the kind of advice I was looking for. Thanks for saving me from learning this myself. I guess I'll install the carb stone and then continue using and oxygen wand.

Oxygenation stone for oxygen and carbonation

Yeah, I did think of this. Too much CO2 would scrub the oxygen but a quick burst shouldn't hurt... I think.

Oxygenation stone for oxygen and carbonation

I'm starting to come to grips with fermenting in my new(ish) unitank. I've started thinking about the best way to use it to carbonate the beer before transferring to keg. I was looking at carb stones and it got me thinking. Could I install a carb stone into a tri clover port towards the bottom...

HERMs brewing, recirculation speed and astringency

For those HERMs brewers out there, how fast do you recirculate your mash and have you ever got astringency from over recirculation? Over the last few years I've had some low-level astringency with some of my beer. This could come from a number of places in the brew including the grain crush...

    Advice with pure O2

Yeah, I make large starters at times too (whenever I use liquid yeast. dry yeast doesn't need O2). I don't let them spin that long though. Usually 48-72 hours and then I turn off the stir plate for another 24 hours so the yeast separates out. Over the 48-72 hours the starter builds up some...

    Advice with pure O2

For the last couple of years I've used Kegland pure O2 to oxygenate my lagers and high OG beers (anything with liquid yeast). I really think this has improved my fermentations and I'd like to continue to do this. I've recently exhausted my Kegland disposable O2 cylinder and it doesn't look like...

Equipment For Sale Three tap keezer - Melbourne - $300

Small keezer for sale. Fits two 19L kegs plus the shelf on the side takes a 9L keg, a couple of mini kegs or just bottles of beer and yeast packets. I built this when I was living in a small apartment so keeping it small was important. It's about four years old. Comes with: 2 intertaps with...

Induction brewing... anyone doing it? What induction element do you use.

Yes, I'm still brewing with my induction hob and after ~25 brews I'm still really happy with it. The only issue I've had is that occasionally when I'm doing a long boil (2 hours plus) it will beep and turn off. Not sure if this is a time feature or a heat thing but I turn it straight back on...

HERMS brewing process - Mash in and stiring

I stirred immediately after underletting and then let it settle for a couple of minutes then started a really slow recirc. I'll try your method this week when I brew my American Porter.

HERMS brewing process - Mash in and stiring

So I underlet, stir, give it 5 mins for the temp to settle then start recirculating. I've seen people mash in while recirculating though. Does that make a difference?

HERMS brewing process - Mash in and stiring

Thanks all for your advice. I've found this thread really helpful. As I mentioned, my HERMS set up is pretty new and I've only done a couple of brews with it. Both had brewhouse efficiencies in the 60s and that just didn't seem right. While I've seen and read heaps about building HERMS systems...

HERMS brewing process - Mash in and stiring

huh, that's really interesting. Do you stir any other time? Like during to rest?

HERMS brewing process - Mash in and stiring

I've recently switched to a HERMS system and, while I've only done two brews on it, I'm loving it already. I realise though that there are a lot of different ways to use a system like this and I'm keen to understand how people a) mash in and b) how and when they stir when HERMS brewing. My...

MKII magnetic pump - stainless steel head wont fit

@zoigl Yes there are different sizes for the heads? @Sidney Harbour-Bridge I'm in Preston, Melbourne. I might take you up on that offer. I'd like to get the steel ones that fit and work eventually but having a plastic one will get me through until KL have them back in stock... assuming I don't...

MKII magnetic pump - stainless steel head wont fit

I've been setting up my HERMs brewery and just got the final things I needed to complete it - two MKII magnetic pumps from Kegland. The ones with the plastic head unit. While tightening the camlock fitting onto the pump the plastic head broke. I wasn't even screwing it on very tight. Annoyed I...
