It is probably worth keeping in mind that most IBU formulas don't work well when the numbers get that high (>60 IBUs). Your calculated 85 IBUs will likely be lower than that in reality. So you might want to include some hops in the boil to get the bitterness needed in an IIPA.I

I have a grainfather too and have been thinking about getting one of these for beers with a lot of hops. I'd be interested to hear what you think the problem with it is?

That price is attractive. $700 less than the grainfather and the only thing missing seems to be a pump. Of course there could be some big differences in build quality, durability etc. If someone gets one of these, I would be very appreciative of a review.

Takai, not sure how long you are planning to secondary but I would keep a pretty close watch on the oak chip half and taste regularly. In my (relatively limited) experience oak chips can lead to an over oaked beer pretty quickly.

About to register a couple of entries through compmaster. Just curious as to why OG, FG and yeast strain is required? I don't have a problem with it, just wondering what that info is used for. Does this help the judges?
