    Does dry hopping add bitterness?

Thanks for all the advice - absolutely great! I'll follow your lead and let you know how it goes. I was using the BrewLog app on my phone, which probably isn't the most accurate software so I'll jump on Brewers Friend. Thanks again!

    Does dry hopping add bitterness?

Thanks guys. Very helpful. Droopy Brew - in my mind, first wort hopping equates to more bitterness with not as much flavour. I'm planning on brewing a SMaSH APA this weekend with a batch of Citra I just got my hands on. Planned hop schedule is as follows: 15g Citra 30 mins 30g Citra 15...

    Does dry hopping add bitterness?

I know that this topic has been covered in the past but I'd like to reopen the discussion. The last couple of brews I've done have been AIPAs. Generally I'll use a small amount of hops (15/30g) as a bittering addition at 30 mins, and then use quite a lot of whirlpool hops (around 100g) at...

Brewtech SS fermenting vessels discussion thread

Sorry if this question has already been answered - I'm planning on brewing a DIPA in my SS Brewbucket this weekend. I found the recipe on BYO - https://byo.com/mead/item/2808-hop-stands 19L Brew, OG = 1.074, FG = 1.012, ABV = 8% Considering it has a pretty high OG do you think I need a blow...

    Dry hop with grain bag

Ended up using the grain bag. Have another similar batch that's conditioning in the bottle now. For that one I used a looser grain hop sock. Went pretty big on the dry hop for both batches - 100g in each 21L batch. Although they are different hops I'll let you know if there is any difference in...

    Dry hop with grain bag

I'm going to rack to secondary and dry hop today. I don't like to put the pellets in free as I usually bottle straight from secondary. In the past I've used hop socks from my local store but they always end up getting really mangy by the end and arent really re-usable. I was thinking of...

    Steeping Munich

Has anyone ever steeped Munich before adding LME/DME to an extract brew? I've read that Munich can only be mashed but I was wondering if anyone else has tried it and if so what kind of results they got. Cheers

    US-05 Pitching Temperature

Morning, I brewed an extract batch last night. Had around 12L of boiled wort which I cooled to about 40 celcius and then put it into the FV with cold bottled water to top up to 21L. I miscalculated how much the the cold top up water would bring the overall temperature down. It went down to...

    Munich LME

Thanks stewy! I'll tinker around with it a bit to incorporate some more Munich LME - will probably go with your suggestion of about 700-750gm

Recipe Help - Pirate Life IPA Clone

Have you ever done this in your home brew? I generally dry hop in my primary FV and would imagine that I would need to put the hops in a sanitized bag/sock and then fish them out after a couple of days and replace with a new fresh bag of hops.

    Munich LME

I'm planning on brewing the following this weekend. Its a recipe I've come up with in an attempt to clone the Pirate Life IPA. My specific question is whether I am using enough Munich LME. From what I've read, if you're using 2-row and munich, the munich shouldn't be more than 15% of the grain...

Great, thanks for the tips. Considering that I am finding it hard to source WLP090 I was leaning towards just using US05 anyways!

Recipe Help - Pirate Life IPA Clone

Hi all I love absolutely love the Pirate Life IPA and wanted to brew something that tastes similar to it. I want it to be very hop forward and refreshing. As a bit of background I'm a new brewer and am only trying my hand at extract brewing for the moment. Once I am comfortable that I can brew...

Has anyone ever used Thai Palm Sugar?

I'm planning on brewing a recipe that an American friend gave me (XPA). This is only my fourth extract brew so its a bit more technical than I'm used to and wanted to ask the esteemed brewers' advice (i.e. you). The recipe calls for Thai Palm Sugar. Has anyone ever used this in a brew before...
